Job Description/Responsibilities
ARTICLE 19 is an international organisation with regional offices in Bangladesh, Brazil, Kenya, Mexico and Senegal and country offices in Tunisia and Myanmar. We champion freedom of expression (FoE) including freedom of information as a fundamental human right. Our programme of work in Bangladesh and South Asia includes the development and monitoring of laws and policies and violations of FoE in countries of the sub-region. Capacity building and training of journalists includes dedicated initiatives for online activists and women journalists. We promote greater transparency and accountability of public authorities using the Right to Information law in Bangladesh. Our regional programme promotes of FoE among human rights institutions in Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Afghanistan.
We are looking for an Assistant Project Officer responsible for supporting the monitoring and implementation of our projects in Bangladesh and in the South Asia region   S/he will be responsible for ensuring high standards of project implementation and project deliverables, effective and timely reporting is a must.
Specific tasks will also include providing high quality assistance:
  • Undertaking specific pieces of research on regional human rights and FoE issues building on our existing assessments;
  • Support the production of high quality reporting, policy papers, legal analysis  and project proposals;
  • Assisting in the preparation of international press release and statements based on different projects;
  • In designing and maintaining regular communication and updates to our networks for online expression and regional work;
  • In organisation and delivery of assigned project activities including training, Roundtables, workshops and high profile seminars;
  • In the production of timely and high quality process documentation, presentations, campaign materials and publications;
  • To the Regional Programme Team in operationalising an effective mode of communication for improved scanning of FoE issues in the sub-region including an online news source;

Educational Requirements
At least a Master of Laws from a recognised University, a degree from renowned foreign university will be given preference;
Experience Requirements
  • Excellent knowledge of laws, policies, literature on human rights,  freedom of expression,  and access to information, national and international frameworks and human rights mechanisms is essential;
  • High level skills of report writing and communication are essential;
  • Some experience as a lawyer and/or a legal researcher or as a junior in a law firm;
  • Experience in desk and field based legal research and/or projects or programmes;
  • High level skills in using internet and networking;
Duration- 1 year with possibilities of extension
Salary
Negotiable  within  our scales for Assistant Project Officer/Project Officer
